Christmas Gift Guide for Him
Lockdown and Furlough can have different meanings for the chaps in our lives; there’s both apprehension of being unable to work but also an opportunity for family time, maybe a mixture of both for most. It’ll be different for everyone of course but even if it’s been a positive side effect of the pandemic, being stuck at home without the freedoms we normally enjoy can become a constraint to even the most positive family man out there. So this year we’ve looked for items to bring happiness as well as fun and other goodies, to help save the sanity of the new-to-staying-at-home men in our lives. No stereotyping intended there… A lockdown Christmas, it is what it is, enjoy.
How will Christmas be different for you this year? Let us know in the comments.
30 Seconds Game – WIN!
£29.99 from Amazon and other game stockists

We think gaming is likely to become key to creating Christmas fun for the family this year, and in the absence of meeting up with extended family members, we think 30 Seconds from SmartGames is a great contender to filling that void, after all who doesn’t love watching ITV’s The Chase? Competing with those quiz masters on telly is always good fun so it’s great to have 30 Seconds to pull out – give your brain a workout while making you laugh.
It’s got all the aspects of a successful game night; being fast-paced and exciting, giving players just 30 seconds to describe the 5 names on their chosen card, it sounds easy but under the half a minute of pressure makes your brain freeze, and… there are rules to adhere to! The topics cover anything from landmarks to TV shows, celebrities to politicians and royals, but you’re kept on tenterhooks trying to get through the list of 5 without saying the actual words or using any ‘sounds like’ words or using any cheeky rhyming strategies.
It’s harder than you think, but it’s something even younger family members could have a go at too, perhaps give them some extra seconds. There’s a minimum of 4 players but we think it could be worked to use with friends and family over zoom too. Perfect.
Escape Room The Game: 2 – WIN!
£29.99 from Argos and other game stockists

If you haven’t experienced an actual Escape Room then frankly you’ve missed out. We’ve had loads of fun at them, I took my teen and some friends for a birthday experience pre-covid and it’s brilliant – far more high pressure than you’d realised, especially being the only adult – you’re expected to excel! Thankfully we made it out alive with just seconds to spare. Phew.
But with a festive lockdown looming down on us, this is an awesome gift idea for the chaps in our lives, you know – one that almost everyone can enjoy. You get the thrill and mystery of the Escape Game, but safely at home. You’re virtually locked in, and have just 60 minutes to find the codes to escape, and just like in the real life game, you have to solve puzzles and riddles to win your freedom. There’s three different games to play; “Panic on the Titanic”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Dawn of the Zombies”. It’s aimed at 16+ and it’ll keep 3-5 of you busy for a full hour. Add 3x AA batteries to your basket because they’re not included.
Green & Blacks Connoisseur Collections
£17.99 from greenandblacks.co.uk

What’s wonderful about Green & Black’s is that it’s a chocolate gift that’s always perfect for something special. And this Organic Connoisseur Collection presents an impressive gift for a grown up chap in our lives, with its unique Green & Black’s bars. Taste is everything and the organic collection has won multiple awards at the Academy of Chocolate and Great Taste Awards. Celebrity chefs choose G&B’s and we here at MumsClub love the intense chocolate flavours and from personal experience, I can confirm that the Green & Blacks chocolate experience is totally different from everyday treats. Where else can you get a Tasting Wheel to help you get the perfect pairing with your food and drinks? It’s the perfect connoisseur accompaniment.
Staying home to stream a film with a bar of G&B’s is the perfect night in, and you could upgrade your gift to include the Prosecco too for that extra special experience.
Ted Baker Manicure Set
£18 from Boots

Oh what’s better at Christmas than a splendidly manicured chap? Well yes there’s lots more but it’s definitely up there with things we like to see. This is probably a once in a blue moon gift, but one that should be kept safe forever more because a set like this is so useful. Ted Baker handily provided a “Helping Hand from Ted” with this really lovely Manicure Gift Set. It comes with everything our modern men need to keep their hands (and feet) spick and span, including clippers, tweezers and nail file set in its own handy pouch, but also a nail brush, cleansing bar, and hand lotion. I’ll have that thank you… 🙂
There’s no excuse for anything but perfectly trimmed nails, bring it on! And don’t forget it’s included in the Boots mix & match offer of 3 for 2. Bargain.
Christmas Survival Kit
£45 from Konditor

We all love a sweet treat and this German inspired kit will help a man in your life survive the 2020 Covid Christmas in super style, reminiscent of the annual German Markets we miss so much. Let him find a corner and devour this lot but perhaps factor in some Joe Wicks time too 🙂 Interestingly Gerhard Jenne, the name behind the Konditor brand made a name for himself creating cakes for the rich and famous, including Tina Turner and the Rolling Stones. So he’ll be in good company!
The survival kit gives you six hand-made mince pies, made of beautifully buttery pastry and filled with a luxurious mince meat. Konditor has included some of their most popular cookies too including Spiced Kipferl, a recipe suitable for Vegans, Cinnamon Stars and Lemon Moons, both being wheat-free recipes. There’s also a scrummy matured, dark, brandy soaked Fruit Cake, baked as a small loaf and covered in marzipan and royal icing, finally embellished with a cookie shooting star decoration.
Marvellous Map of Great British Names
£11.99 from Amazon

They claim it’s a fun, slightly cheeky and mildly educational tour of Great Britain, and they’re right! It introduces to you to some surprisingly true names places including Bottom Burn, Fulking Hill, Great Snoring, Dull Old Sodbury, and Wigtwizzle. Made by Tincleton & Giggleswick Strumpshaw who are known for more sensible maps, these are printed in the same format as those traditional folded maps, so at first your gift recipient will be none the wiser until he actually starts to look at it.
We think it’s great gift to plan future post-covid days out, and there’s loads of space to make notes and plan your very own ‘Rude Trip’ tour of Britain. Nice.

It will be quieter with only my parents round but will be lovely to see them
Christmas this year will definitely be different for me. Instead of celebrating altogether in person, I will be video calling my beloved family members and friends who are self-isolating. We are all thinking about having a virtual Christmas present opening call, so that we can see the gifts that we’ve received from one another, and capture the look of surprise on each others faces, especially the children! @SewMarvellous
I wont be visiting family this year. Also spending less.
No crowded Christmas Mass ,wishing everyone.”Merry Christmas”.
No people popping in with gifts. No rushing out with last minute deliveries.
Christmas Eve supper & Dinner should be normal, but no visits to friends on Christmas night.A very different Christmas!
We will not be able to see our families and we will be spending much less
We are probably buying slightly less but other than that it will be the same as I spend it with my parents, as I have done every year of my life. I probably won’t see my inlaws though. I am not sociable and only like my parents’ company so low key is fine for me.
This year we’ve had an awful year with everything so it will be just a small day with Mum and my 3 year old little boy
Christmas will be much more low key than usual. Probably won’t get the full family together, erring on the side of caution
My son won’t be able to visit from America because of COVID
We will be having the people that usually come for Christmas. Christmas is very sad for my stepdad and brother because my mum died on Christmas Day. Since she died they have been coming to us for a week for the past 15 years. We are having them over just for a couple of days this year.
with lockdown christmas isnt going to change for me except i wont visit my mum in the evening but dont think ill miss out on much anyway hehe
