A facebook chat inspired this blog post, we were talking about cooking tips so now we have a new being a mum blog category…

I’ve always used this method to cook rice and it works every time, it originally came from Delia Smith, so all hail her…not me 🙂
- Use a measuring jug to measure 5fl oz or 150ml of rice for 2 people. (double it for 4 people etc)
- Boil the kettle
- Add a little cooking oil to the rice in the measuring jug and stir well to cover each grain which helps to keep them separate.
- Now put the rice (without water) into a large saucepan and put a low heat under it
- Fill the same measuring jug with the hot water – roughly DOUBLE the amount of rice – but always go slightly less water than rice – never more.
- You can add a level teaspoon of rice here – optional.
- Add the hot water to the rice in the pan and stir once
- Cover and leave on a low heat for 15 mins. DO NOT CHECK ON IT or you’ll let the steam out.
- After 15 mins, check it – make sure all the water has evaporated and you’re left with cooked rice. Depending on how hot your lowest setting is, you may need more time. So you may need to give it another few minutes if needed.
- When cooked, take the lid off, turn off the heat and place a tea towel over the top to absorb the steam for a couple of mins or until the meal is ready.
- Just before serving use a fork to fluff the rice up.
And ta-da you have perfect rice.
Enjoy!
