International Women’s Day celebrates equality for women

In recent years, society has witnessed a significant change and attitude shift towards women’s equality and rights. With female astronauts, medics and entrepreneurs being common place and with women  now holding a more dominant place within business and politics, it’s time to celebrate the achievements  of women.

International Women’s Day just does this, falling just short of Mother’s Day on Friday 8th March 2013. International Women’s Day looks to reflect on the achievements of all women over the world. Many countries treat International Women’s Day as as important as Mother’s Day, with men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, and colleagues with flowers and small gifts.

YogaBellies® have launched International Birth ROCKS Day in correspondence with International Women’s Day. Birth ROCKS day honours pregnant and birthing women, showing support and solidarity for mothers. We believe that every mother and each birth are unique and that  when it comes to finding comfort in birth, one Size does not fit all.

Director of YogaBellies and mum of one, Cheryl MacDonald says: “I set up YogaBellies to help enable women to enjoy birth  and to get rid of any fears they have have of birth or parenthood. YogaBellies offers a support network for all women, encouraging women to come together and support each other.

YogaBellies revolutionary natural birth preparation program, also named Birth ROCKS, looks at birthing from a positive perspective. Birth is a normal physiological process and an occasion for celebration; something parents should look forward to and not be made to feel scared of. Modern media images of birth give the wrong impression. It doesn’t have to be traumatic, it doesn’t have to be painful, Birth ROCKS!”

YogaBellies® will be holding a Birth ROCKS Day event in their Women & Baby Centre in the West End of Glasgow, 27 Woodside Place, G3 7LQ on Friday 8th March 2013 from 3pm – 7pm. The event will celebrate empowering women and helping them to realise there are a range of birthing techniques available to them and they have the right to choose what suits them best as an individual. The event will consist of two film screenings “Freedom for birth” and “Red Tent” and will incorporate a Births Art Session, stress relief techniques, paired massage and also a guided meditation and relaxation. In addition to this there will be a Birth ROCKS forum, a question and answering session for mothers and birth professionals alike, to ask questions about pregnancy, birth or motherhood. There will be a range of birth and baby professionals such a midwives, doulas, health professionals and baby food allergy experts there on the  night.
