Christmas Gift Guide for Pets

Because our four-legged family members like presents too!

PetSafe Pagoda Pet Fountain

£82.99 from Drinkwell

OK, yes it’s wonderful for our family’s 4-legged people with its constantly supply of fresh filtered water, gently pouring into a ceramic bowl for them to drink wonderfully healthy water, but as well as that The Drinkwell® Ceramic Pagoda Pet Fountain looks and sounds fantastic in the kitchen. All it needs is some goldfish and you’ve got yourself your own Japanese water feature. It’s truly a piece of art.

Out of the box, it looks a little overwhelming and in truth, I put it aside until I had more time, however in reality it’s really straight forward and I had nothing to fear. I had it set up and pouring within 5 minutes.

The dog took a little longer to work it out! Normally when you pour water into her bowl, she’ll drink it as it pours, same with a hose pipe, she loves drinking from the spout therefore I thought she’d be right in there with this, but she watched it for a while before taking a slurp from her old water bowl! Typical.

However with some encouragement from some finger wagging in the bowl it didn’t take long for her to realise who it was for and now the old bowl doesn’t get a look in so it’s back in the cupboard. She’s definitely a convert now, her biggest decision now is whether to drink from the top of the pagoda, the bowl, or as it falls. Oh to be a dog.

My favourite features as well as its beauty is that it’s clean, hygienic, elevated which I always feel a dog needs, but perfect for older pets. I love that all pets in the house can happily share it, that you can easily replace the foam filter, and being beneath the water, the pump is really quiet, all you hear is the gentle patter of the falling water which is lovely and soothing, and makes quite the conversation piece with guests.

PetSafe Ricochet Electronic Dog Toys

£34.99 from PetSafe

I’d never seen anything like this new electronic toy. It looks like a pair of tough rubber oversized eggs but when you push the button simultaneously to pair them, a ding indicates they’re ready and they begin interacting with each other in a way to create bedlam. I’mnot sure the designers had that brief in mind but it’s what we get.
We have one dog in the family and although there’s always someone at home and she’s taken for walks regularly, she still sometimes seems a bit bored. But presenting her with this was hilarious. A dog owner will likely know that bum in the air, tail wagging stance, but she bounced around the single noisy egg wondering if, like the postman, it was going to murder us all. She was jumping on it, around it, growling at it, nudging it, and barking. Then, it went silent…. and the other egg piped up. Unfortunately for her, she’d forgotten there was a second contender and by now it was right behind her, I think the joy turned to panic for a second but then she went straight back to growling and nudging until it stopped and the first started up.

She looked somewhat tired after a while of this, and went to have a chew on her pull toy. So now once she’s had some fun I put it away and bring it out every so often, and sometimes activate it and hide it. Leave em’ wanting more I say!

PetSafe Squeak ‘n Treat Booya™

£4.99 from PetSafe

Treats and squeaks are awesome toys in our house. We often but treat toys as they keep the little guys happy for longer. But more so, squeaky toys are always good value for money entertainment as they lead to confused mayhem. Dogs love them, we love them. Brilliant fun. The Squeak and Treat Booya dispenses treats as your dog plays with the toy, keeping him engaged, which if he has any other behaviour such as chewing the dining chair legs, can hopefully redirect his attention. You can trim the prongs inside to allow more treats to be dispensed but beware not to cut too short as they don’t grow back!

It’s a very robust toy, likely ideal for the toughest of jaws.

PetSafe Ultra Sub™ Toy

£8.99 from PetSafe

The treat rings in this are really popular in our house. The Ultra Sub™ toy resembles the popular Sub style sandwich with its knobbed nylon “buns”, that smell like vanilla, sandwiching rubber spacers and 2 treat rings. But these treat rings are ultra-thick, 4x thicker than the rawhide rings we’ve had before so they’ll last much longer. The rings spin on their posts, which you may think is frustrating but it allows little room for your dog to grab onto, thus making it interesting for longer. Dog’s are fine with this type of annoyance, they’re just focused on the goal and they’re happy with that. And if they get fed up, they’ll soon be back!

PetSafe Bristle Bone

£7.99 from PetSafe

And finally, after all those treats, let’s focus on our pooches toothy pegs. The Bristle Bone has durable nylon bristles with rubber nubs to encourage good dental health. There’s still room for those yummy treat rings that you can slide on for more playtime but with this, as well as brushing their teeth, your pet can chew on the treat rings but can’t gorge on treats.

It unscrews easily to reload with treats, and to cleaning. It’s an overall great concept for dog chew toy design.
