Abis 3 Tier Electric Clothes Airer

Out of the box, the 3 tier airier is super easy to put together. I initially put it off thinking that being electric, it was going to take brain power and after a half term of trying to keep kids entertained amidst a lockdown I was frazzled. However I was delighted when it was easier to construct than any airer I’ve had in the past, and I’ve had a few! Frankly, it took me longer to find the on switch than it did to construct. FYI – it’s a button located on the one foot of the airer, and it glows orange when it’s on. You really can’t miss it! See photo below.

So out of the box you simply pop the feet on and it’s ready! It comes with 2 small screws to make it more secure and ensure you don’t lose the feet but that’s so easy it’s barely worth a mention.

Even closed, the feet provide enough stability to be left free-standing which is excellent for storing away. To use it, you need open the feet out to create sturdiness, and drop each of the shelves down to enable you to hold the clothes. When storing away, there’s a handy catch on each shelf to enable them to clip together and ensure they remain in the closed position.

Made from Aluminium, it’s very light, and even when assembled you can carry it with one hand. And even considering it’s light weight, it’s surprisingly sturdy.

It heats up really quickly, and doesn’t get too hot to touch.  For reassurance, it has an auto safety cut-off to prevent overheating, plus it’s equipped with an ip65 switch which protects from any water that may drip on the switch.

Previous to this electric airer, I had a stand alone style of the same shape/design but not electric. I would place this over a radiator in the winter when I can’t hang outside. But it would always create condensation in the room which meant a window needed to be opened – letting the cold in. This has been an annoyance for me, but having this electric version has vastly reduced that which I’m very impressed with.

A good tip is to place the smaller items in the middle, larger items in the outside to create a barrier to keep the heat inside for longer. You can see from the photo where I’ve used the trousers, doing this all around creates a warmer box around your clothes.

I quite like the single bar across the top, it doesn’t get hot and it’s placed in a handy position for a long item to hang full length on a hanger – I used this to hang my teen’s school blazer with trousers inside. I’ve not known that feature on an airer before. See the photo – I’ve used a hanging shirt to show how I like to use it.

It dried clothes quicker than the over the radiator option, which meant I could put it away sooner. Also the bottom 2 levels of my old airer didn’t get the heat from the radiator, with the electric one it reaches all 3 levels meaning I can dry far more at one time, in fact there’s 12 metres of drying surface so there’s plenty of room.

Efficiency wise, it’s hard to know exactly how much energy it actually uses, the manufacturers claims it is highly efficient, and it doesn’t get hugely hot so I can’t imagine it’s very much.

The 3 tier airer is priced at £119.99 and is available to buy from Abis Electronics.co.uk
