Jane Postlethwaite, a Cumbrian comedy performer, writer and voice actor has, over the last 5 years been writing her own one-hour comedy shows and has taken them to Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe festivals.
Her comedy work has got her to BBC Comedy Award heats, Funny Women Finals and on BBC Radio 4.
She is currently running a new crowdfunder to enable her to record all three of her previous fringe shows in radio play style for a new podcast called, ‘Character Building’. These shows include Made in Cumbria, The House and her recent show HAUNTED.
If you missed these shows you can listen for free online.
Recording the shows will help Jane save work and be able to use previous scripts that are currently just sitting in a drawer.

The most important part is the new podcast project also includes some of the amazing women Jane has been teaching comedy to over the last year or so. She’s chosen 24 women who are wanting to continue doing comedy but are up against obstacles like time, lack of money, family obligations, mental health issues or challenging careers. These women are from places like Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham, Sheffield, Cumbria, Cambridge and Brighton.
Jane would like these women to be able to contribute to the new podcast by submitting sketches and performing. They will be creating episodes so they’ll be able to stay creative, work with likeminded women and get some comedy credits. The plan is to do 6-8 episodes of new content.
As this is a big project to undertake Jane’s crowdfunder hopes to raise funds to give these 24 women free sketch writing training in Manchester, a rehearsal space to work in, studio time, free travel and a free lunch.
Jane says;
There doesn’t seem to be any other project taking place like this available for women. I am always wanting to create opportunities that I wish existed when I started out my comedy career.I’m currently sharing the crowdfunder on twitter from @_JPostlethwaite and from the facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CharacterBuildingShow/ I’m also posting information about these women on the facebook page and on instagram.
There’s more info at https://igg.me/at/CharacterBuilding/x/3612131
It’s an exciting project as it means that not only will Jane get to share her own shows with everyone wherever they are in the world but she’ll also be able to help out a talented bunch of women get started in comedy.
We wish Jane’s project all the best!
