There’s a new kettle in town! Running a guest house, we do tend to get through electrical items quicker than I’d like. In our private family kitchen, I can’t remember the last time we bought a new kettle or toaster, but in the Breakfast room, that’s open 24 hours a day for our guests, we can get through them because they are being used several times a day.

However, I have high hopes for our new additions. We’ve not had Salter before for electrical products, I have several Salter pans which have lasted for years and still going strong so I’m interested to see how these will pan out. No pun intended…

Straight away, I love the design. We chose the titanium (champagne and pearl blue are also available) as our breakfast room has grey and silver decor so it sits perfectly on our breakfast room server. It’s design is the clean looking metallic, but it’s a brushed finish which doesn’t show up finger prints that constantly need polishing off, instead a quick wipe in the morning after the breakfast room has emptied is all that’s needed. The metallic brushed effect is definitely my favourite finish to kitchen items, so much so that I’m now looking for a microwave to match these.

Initially, the quality comparison to my previous brand is clear. Both the kettle and toaster are robust and feel strong to hold, the kettle’s base is also sturdy so it doesn’t move when you place the kettle down.

The Salter Polaris Jug Kettle has a cute steady opening button that opens upon a simple tap to the lid and it’s so smooth that you might think it’s electrical, it’s not. It’s just quality. It has a boil dry sensor with automatic shut off which increases safety which is great in any home. It’s cordless which is a must these days and the water gauge is useful to help you fill it only enough for what you need. This saves both water and electricity, something we all should be thinking more about. Filling the kettle with only as much as you need means it’ll boil quicker too.

But as we tend to need a full kettle, the 1.7l gives us around 7 cups and the 3000w means the water boils in great time. It’s fairly quiet too, and it looks fabulous sat on the counter next to the matching toaster.

The Salter Polaris 4-Slice Toaster is a useful 4 slice design, 850w makes it a powerful toaster with reheat, defrost and cancel buttons along with 6 levels of browning control for each set of toaster slots; which means 2 slices of frozen and 2 slices of defrosted bread can be toasted simultaneously.

We’ve found the wider slots very useful for our guests; every morning we serve a selection of continental breakfast items including waffles, teacakes, crumpets and bagels. They all work really well in the wider slot, and there’s been no burning when thicker items have previously been squeezed in. This has already saved wasted food and also makes it easy to get the bagels out once toasted, which means there’s no need for anyone to be tempted to use a fork or knife to gauge them out… Nobody wants to damage the element or sustain personal injury!

The removable crumb tray doesn’t get stuck, and doesn’t seem to leak either – any help cleaning up after breakfast is always welcome!

We love finding items that make our lives that little bit easier and we’ve been very pleasantly surprised at what a positive difference a new kettle and toaster has made to the breakfast room.

Thanks to Blythewood Guest House in Warwickshire for taking the time to review the Salter Polaris Kettle & Toaster set.
