The Adventure Generation

Do you find your kids today are demanding more from adventures? Are your kids too, moving away from their electric devices and getting outside?

With the summer coming, this research from Fruit Shoot carried out on 1000 kids, might prove some useful inspiration for you and yours, and a fabulous event; Mini Mudder, an annual adventure obstacle course for children aged 7-12, is planned to provide the perfect opportunity to try something new.

Did you know?

  • Over half (64%) of children have an adventure at least once a week
  • Almost one in 10 children chose the rainforest as their perfect adventure destination
  • Katy Perry tops the list of the ideal celebrity to take on an adventure because “she’s funny”
  • Children have created a rainforest themed obstacle to be unveiled at the first Fruit Shoot Mini Mudder event on 30th April at Henley on Thames

Lately, the more traditional childhood activities such as climbing trees, making dens and hide & seek have been relegated to ‘unadventurous’, with todays modern kid wanting more exotic and varied activities. Fabulously, exploring a rainforest (11%), going on holiday (60%) and swimming in the sea (38%) came up tops!

Contrary to popular belief children are not stuck in front of the computer all day, as almost half (47%) would prefer to be outside when they are not at school.

I think we all can agree that today’s generation of kids are often equipped slightly differently to us parents, because the traditional tools of a map (7th) and compass (10th) both ranked low on their list of essentials. Games consoles (2nd) and mobile phones (3rd) were deemed as more important, showing that unsurprisingly kids today are techy savvy in every aspect of life. I find that even having a map and compass on there surprised me, it’s refreshing to think that kids aren’t completely losing touch with such tools.

We’re heading to the Mini Mudder event this summer, take a look and maybe we’ll see you there?
