Anyone even half crafty will reside within one of two categories – the ‘I have’ or the ‘I want’ a Cricut cutting machine. Here at MumsClub HQ we have acquired a most fabulous Cricut Explore, which in our opinion is the creme de la creme of cutting machines.

We love this machine for a few reasons, one is that it will print as well as cut, but also that as well as satisfying that need for creating crafty stuff, you can realistically make a business out of it.

We’ve been working on a few things to do with making a business out of it which we’ll share in the New Year but in the meantime, whilst looking for christmas tree images – searching for the perfect abstract christmas tree design on many many vector illustrations sites and on Cricut Design Space too, we’ve found a simply BRILLIANT hack to get you almost any image you want. And it’s for free too!

Here’s some Christmas cards we threw together, and I mean threw! Using off-cuts of paper and card we created these really cute cards quickly and incredibly easily. Great fun to do with the kids too.

The ‘scribbled’ Christmas tree design you see here was created from quite simply, pressing the number 3 and using the font known as “KR Christmas 2001”. Did you know that you can get tons and tons of images within fonts? Similar to wingdings, once installed on your PC (which is really easy to do), you can use fonts to create within Cricut design space.

Within Design Space (the software that comes with your Explore) you can create whatever image you like, resize it without fear of graininess and cut to your hearts content. As we did, giving you a lovely, professional looking design to send to your Christmas list.

The best thing  is that it’s for free, simply trot along to 1001fonts.com and you’ll find many free fonts to download and use. Although they’re free, some have a personal use only license so make sure you follow the rules.
